About our club

Background

FARS is one of the earliest radio societies in the UK, being founded in the early 1900s.
The club is involved in many annual events including JOTA, Mills on the Air, Lighthouses on the Air, TDOTA and many other one off special events.
A number of our members are very active with SOTA (convenient with our proximity to the Cumbrian and North Pennine fells).
During the summer months we organise a number of 'fox hunts' and also take part in constructions evenings, talks and general technical activities such as re-furbishing vintage equipment.
The Society has registered instructors for the Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced courses and licences.
