Saturday 25th October 2008 there was a field test for the prospective 2m repeater for Jersey (GB3GJ). Two possible sites have been identified at either Five Oaks or Westmount and the afternoon was spent with a 'portable' station at each site and 'rovers' touring the island to provide signal strength reports for each location.
Differences will ultimately exist because of final configuration and height the testing being carried out from ground level in each instance. It was apparent though that whilst higher Five Oaks lost out slightly to Westmount in overall coverage to the central St.Helier and extreme west of the island areas whilst the east of the island was generally better served by Five Oaks.
In the meantime repeater keeper Peter GJ8PVL has formally applied for an NoV as well as the re-use of the callsign and to obtain a suitable frequency. More information will be publicised here when available but once more the plea is put forward to all members and visitors for any help, assistance and suopport that can be provided.
