The Radio Amateur’s Emergency Network -RAYNET - was set up in 1953 after the east coast floods, to provide emergency communications in times of disaster.
It now also provides communications at many major public events, such as marathons, fun runs, sponsored walks and similar events
Gloucestershire County RAYNET was formed in 1980, since when it has developed excellent relations with all the user services and regularly provides services on their behalf at events all around the County.
In 1989 the group was registered as a charity with the Charity commission. It has about 40 members from all walks of life, and of different classes of licence, who have an interest in radio communications. The group has an array of its own equipment, including mobile radios, computers and modems for data communications.
Group events are posted on this site, and also the National Raynet Diary, on www.raynet-uk.net.
