About our club

Background

The Huntingdonshire Amateur Radio Society (HARS) was formed in the mid 1980s and amalgamated with the local repeater group for GB3OV. Originally HARS met in local pubs but later moved to their present location at the Medway Centre, Medway Road, Huntingdon PE29 1SF.

HARS meet in the Medway Centre on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7.30pm. Typically there are more than thirty members including several ladies at each meeting.

Newcomers will find a warm, friendly and informal atmosphere at these meetings. Currently HARS have about sixty members with wide interests in amateur radio including an active CW training and appreciation group.

There is a daily net hosted by Ron, G8GRT, on GB3OV (433.125 MHz 94.8 Hz CTCSS) at 10.00am, all are welcome to join.

There is also a net on 145.350MHz FM at 8pm on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of the month run by Gerald G8AKL. If you can hear us then please join in.

An informal Sunday morning net often runs on 145.350MHz starting at noon, all are welcome.

80m Wednesday Wafflers Net.
Every Wednesday, starts at 19.15 to
19.30 hours (local) on 3.750 MHz +/- QRM on SSB. Net controllers include Dave M0DFW, Geoff G8ABB and Sid M0SRS. The net is for general chit chat and all are welcome to join in.
Note: This net is currently suffering from poor inter "G" propagation at the moment except for very local contacts.

Morse Code (CW) Practice
If you are keen to learn CW as a beginner or become more proficient with hands on practice, then please join the nets run by Peter G4LHI from Hartford on 144.7625 MHz FM on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.
Mondays at 7.30pm. Each station gets a chance to send a small passage (of his choice) from his own station in the CW Mode, giving him sending practice on the key & other stations to get used to different fists.
Tuesdays at 8pm. The practice on this session is transmitted by Peter G4LHI using F2A/F3E mode, (CW on FM ) to give those stations a chance to practice CW with FM rigs only.
Wednesdays at 8pm. This session is pure CW (A1A) & if any one would like to try their hand at a little faster CW they are welcome to join the group. Just break in at any time after the "K" at the end of an over.
All are welcome to any or all of the sessions (very friendly & constructive nets)
