About our club

Background

Hadley Wood CG is an award-winning team of enthusiastic and dedicated amateurs, with proven success. We go out and brave the elements to "play" radio. This is often associated with beer and banishment to the shed. Not that we're complaining hi hi.

Formed in 2001, the group consists of some high-profile members on the UK radio scene including Steve G3ZVW/AF6SU/ZD8N (editor of RSGB Yearbook and former RadCom editor), Richard G3RWL/8P6DR (of Amsat-UK notoriety) and Simon G6BOX/M0BOX/8Q7BO.

We are based in the North London / South Hertfordshire area and take part in various CW and SSB (and occasionally DATA) events on HF and VHF using the callsigns M0B, G4STV, GX4STV, M0HWC or MX0HWC, depending on the contest. Some operations are from fields and some from fixed locations.

Our success history includes:
* NFD CW Frank Hoosen Trophy (top station on 20m) 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010
* Top scoring team (David Hill G4IQM Memorial Trophy) Club Calls Contest 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009
* Top club station (Ariel Trophy), Club Calls Contest, 2005, 2010
* RSGB Low Power Contest 3W section 2002 (Southgate Trophy)

We are often active in the following contests:
HF:
* AFS CW
* AFS SSB
* Low Power Field Day (CW event)
* NFD (CW event)
* SSB Region 1 Field Day (SSB event)
* Clubs Calls Contest (SSB event)

VHF:
* 6m contests (Apr & Oct)

Some of our members also operate informally in CQWW and CQ WPX on CW, SSB and data, BARTG RTTY and have got certificates for single-band top stations in G and scoring highly in the worldwide tables too. Not quite "best in show" but close! Woof. (No-one said we were sane). Cluck cluck.

Various of our members are active in the UK team for the IARU contest.
