About our club

Background

Swansea Amateur Radio Society offers a warm welcome to anyone in Swansea or the surrounding area interested in the hobby of Amateur Radio, whether SWL or licensed amateur. We meet regularly throughout the year on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month for natter nights, interspersed with lectures on topics of interest.

Members and friends of the club meet on the air on Sunday mornings, for the "Swansea Net" on 28.530 MHz USB at 1100 local time. Anyone who wishes to call in will be more than welcome.

The club has an operating site at Swansea University’s Fairwood Playing Fields, where it has two caravans, a Versatower and a range of antennae and equipment. In the summer months, our natter nights are usually replaced by operational evenings at Fairwood.

The site is also used for contest operation whenever possible. The club's call sign is GW4CC.

For many years, the club has organised the Swansea Rally in mid-February, now held at the Neath Sports Centre, Neath Abbey. (See NEWS for the latest information on the 2011 event - the 30th time it has been held.)

Other regular fixtures in the calendar are the Lighthouse and Lightship weekend in August, when we operate from the Helwick Lightvessel in Swansea Marina, and the annual autumn coach trip for amateurs from South and West Wales to the National Hamfest.

Trainers from the club have conducted Foundation courses in the past few years, with a very high success rate. We are currently reviewing how best to proceed with future courses. Please contact the Secretary if you are interested in taking part.
