VP8YLH Chantal Koekkoek (PA3GQG)

Landgraaf, 19 May 2008, My name is Chantal Koekkoek-PA3GQG. I'm 36 years old and happily married to Jos. We have two lovely children, Jens (born in 1998) and Runa (born in 2000). We live in Landgraaf, that is in the south-east part of The Netherlands, very close to the German and Belgium border. In my spare time I like to spend time with my family as much as possible! Also I like to listen to music, work in the garden, drive my motorbike, do birdwatching, do some cooking, I am also active in scouting and last but not least Hamradio! I'm a licensed Hamradio operator since 1992. I was infected with the "hamvirus" by my husband Jos-PA7DW. First I became a member of the DYLC (Dutch YL Committee, part of VERON), later I became the secretary of the DYLC and was quite active on HF and VHF. With the DYLC we have organized many YL-fielddays which was a lot of fun participating! Using my own callsign (PA3GQG) I participated in (YL)contests. Since 1997 I am the contestmanager of the Midwintercontest. This small HF contest is held every year in January, in the middle of winter (in our part of the world). It is always nice to hear “old” friends on the air and have a chat with them! Also I became the first operator and QSL manager of PI4YLC, the clubcallsign of the DYLC. I activate PI4YLC every now and then, the last time was in February 2008 in the PACC contest, which is the leading Dutch HF contest. My husband and I activated LG5LG and SJ9WL three times, it’s a radio shack for rent on the border of Norway and Sweden. Also we have been travelling to the northern part of Norway to the Vesteralen, and activated EU-033 in 1995 as LA/PA3GQG/p with credits to our friend Eirik-LA9OFA. Since 2008 the DYLC no longer exists. I now manage all YL-matters as a member of the Traffic Buro (also part of Veron). Someone from the Veron-Traffic-Buro send me some information about the VP8 YL-Dxpedition in 2009 and thought I might be interested! And here we are now, registered and ready to go to the Falklands in 8 months from now! A great opportunity, I’m looking very much forward to it! 73 de Chantal – PA3GQG
