CARS AT THE CALLINGTON HONEY FAIR

For the first time Callington Amateur Radio Society (CARS) participated in the Callington Honey Fair, which is held annually on the 1st Wednesday in October. At 7 a.m on the day, several members of the Society braved the rain and darkness to erect the event shelter, displays and antenna facilities. The sight of Chris(G1VNA) hanging each end of a doublet from old fashioned looking street lamps with the aid of a telescopic pole was reminiscent of a gas lamp lighter in years gone by! Relevant amateur radio literature was available for members of the public to read together with demonstrations of equipment using HF and VHF facilities. Despite the inclement weather, a high local noise floor and generator noise from an adjacent burger van, the stall attracted a number of interested members of the public. Some were intrigued by the equipment whilst others were keen to learn more about amateur radio and what it has to offer. CARS hopes to have a presence at next year's Honey Fair.
