SSB FIELD DAY 2008

DRAGON ARC ENTERS THE RESTRICTED SECTION FOR THE 2008 SSB EVENT

08 Sep 2008

Members of the club braved some atrocious weather (even for Wales..) to set up and operate in the contest from Red Wharf Bay on Ynys Môn/Anglesey.

The 24 hour (1300 Sat-1300 Sun UTC) operation was from the club caravan which was dragged by Danny GW7BZR to a beach side location at Red Wharf Bay on the north east coast of the island. A great site with a salt marsh to site the HF5V vertical and an excellent clear take-off to the N/NE from which direction incidentally the force 8 gale and rain was blowing all day Saturday and overnight!

Participants were GW7BZR, GW0GEI, MW0JDW, GW0ETF and MW0BER. We used 2 Elecraft K3 transceivers (GW0ETF and GW7BZR) which performed very well indeed. Final numbers are 428 QSOs giving 1764 points; the 67 multipliers translates to a final claimed score of 118,188 points.

View from caravan to NE. Vertical antenna on the salt marsh..

GW0ETF in the cockpit at Elecraft City - which one shall I use next?
