December 2008 edition
This quick newsletter has been put out to coincide with our final meeting of the year in December. In it we announce the date of next year’s AGM, tell you of the dates of next year’s meeting so that you can put them in your new diaries. Finally the Committee wish all members [and readers of the Newsletter] a Happy Christmas and a healthy and wealthy New Year.

Club 2m Net (s) ?
The club net operates each Tuesday at 7.30pm clock time with call-in on GB3HG [145.625 FM].
It is hoped to try some 2m SSB, with perhaps a regular call-in net to be established after the FM net each Tuesday if sufficient members get interested.

Club Meeting News
As it was not so long since the last newsletter, not many Club nights to report.
October 15th saw a visit from Nigel Knapton our local area RSGB rep.. He brought along 2 interesting DVD ‘s explaining some modern data techniques. The first one featured operating with HF Digital Voice transmission which is being experimented with in the USA and I am sure will appear in the UK soon.
The second DVD explained D-star in operation. This is spreading across the UK and we even have one in South Yorkshire – GB7YD on 145.625FM located near Barnsley. Compatible sets are being sold in the UK by most suppliers.

Local Event News
Hambleton ARS have been asked by Thirsk District Guides to help with a Thinking Day on the Air station next year on 21st & 22nd of February. It will run from Sowerby Guide hut which is easy to find and has good parking. All volunteers / helpers are welcome.

The next rally in the NE is probably going to be the ‘Northern Mobile Rally on April 5th 2009. It will be at Richmond School. For up to date information try website : www.rsars.co.nr

Club 25th Anniversary
2009 is the 25th year for Hambleton ARS so how do members feel we should commemorate it. It would be nice to have an active year with the Club name and call being used extensively. How about GB25JQA ?

Finale

As the world recession spreads across the globe spare a thought for the poor Banking system in Japan. Reported recently-
Kamikaze Bank - business has nose-dived
Bonsai Bank - is having to cut some of its branches
Karaoke Bank - is rumored to be going for a song
Sushi Bank - it is feared their customers are getting a raw deal
Karate Bank - all their staff are getting the chop
and
Origami Bank - has folded.
